What inspired you to join the Common Woman Chorus?
An acquaintance spoke very highly of the chorus and said she had a great experience participating! I've missed singing in a choral group and this seemed like a wonderful space to do that again.
In what ways has being part of the Common Woman Chorus influenced your personal identity and sense of belonging within the LGBTQIA+ community?
It's created a safe space for me to be my authentic self. I don't get a lot of places to do that since I am not 100% out to my family. I can take the mask down and just BE.
Can you share a favorite memory from your time in the chorus that had a significant impact on you?
Since I'm new I don't have too many memories to share yet, but the first night I felt so welcome. So many people greeted me, asked me my name, and made me feel like I had been a part of the chorus for much longer than only a few minutes.
What advice would you give to the next generation of LGBTQIA+ singers interested in joining our chorus?
Take the leap. Push aside the social anxiety of meeting new people and trying something new (it's something I struggle with so you're not alone). But you will be so glad you got out of your comfort zone. Trust me!
