We’re so happy you are interested in joining us!
We accept new members at the beginning of each season, in August and January. No scary auditions! Our singers come from a variety of ages, walks of life and musical skill levels. We are a 4-part treble chorus, meaning you should be able to sing Soprano (1 or 2) or Alto (1 or 2). You don’t have to know how to read music, but you should be able to match pitch. We will hold a new singer orientation to allow you to get to know us, and our artistic director will hold a voice placement session to help figure out which part you will sing. Depending on a number of factors, we may need to cap the number of singers. We will inform you of this as we go through the on-boarding process.
Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 6:45 – 9:15 at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Rd, Durham. You can find us in the Fellowship Hall.
Complete this New Singer Interest form to let us know you would like to join the chorus. We will reach out to let you know next steps. Make sure to check your spam folder if you’re not seeing an email from us!
Before the first rehearsal, be sure to read “Why Join Common Woman Chorus” and “What to Expect” below.
Not interested in singing? We are always looking for non-singing volunteers to help! Find out more.
Why join Common Woman Chorus?
Common Woman Chorus welcomes all those who share our love for singing and our vision to be a beacon for equity, justice, and belonging. We are a non-auditioned treble chorus made up of woman-identifying, gender-nonconforming, and transgender individuals. We are an LGBTQIA+ centered space and a place for queer joy. We are people always seeking and working toward justice. We believe in the power of our collective voices.
