What inspired you to join the Common Woman Chorus?
I joined the chorus a few months after the passing of my husband, Erik Sundelöf, who was a Swedish classical singer. He always encouraged me to continue singing, and when I began again, it felt as though I was in his presence, following the path he would have wanted for me. In addition to this group, I also sing with the ERUUF choir and the Threshold Singers, an international nonprofit that brings comfort through song to people at their bedsides.
In what ways has being part of the Common Woman Chorus influenced your personal identity and sense of belonging within the LGBTQIA+ community?
Being part of the Common Woman Chorus has been incredibly meaningful for me. It has provided a supportive and welcoming space during my bereavement – my husband died in January of this year. Through the CWC I can connect with others who share a passion for music and a commitment to inclusivity. It’s not just about singing together—it’s about being part of a community that values and uplifts each individual’s wherever they are in their journey.
Can you share a favorite memory from your time in the chorus that had a significant impact on you?
The welcoming potluck was memorable because I was able to bring my mother, who also loves to sing, and she experienced the community joined by their love of singing.
What advice would you give to the next generation of LGBTQIA+ singers interested in joining our chorus?
Come as you are, and don’t be afraid to share your voice—both in song and in spirit.
