What inspired you to join the Common Woman Chorus?
I saw a printed advertisement for the Common Woman Chorus in the Independent Weekly (now INDY Week). I enjoyed singing with youth choirs at my church growing up, but was no longer associated with a church and missed singing with a group.
In what ways has being part of the Common Woman Chorus influenced your personal identity and sense of belonging within the LGBTQIA+ community?
The Common Woman Chorus has been one of my main connections to the LGBTQ+ community in Durham. Through the CWC I have met so many other queer folks and have participated in numerous LGBTQ+ community events.
Can you share a favorite memory from your time in the chorus that had a significant impact on you?
I really enjoyed marching with the CWC in the Durham pride parades, and then bringing our children with us to those events as time went on.
What advice would you give to the next generation of LGBTQIA+ singers interested in joining our chorus?
This is a wonderful, intergenerational, loving community. It may very well change your life!
